Kretek brand "L.A." launches new flavors in Japan on 11/17 (Mon.)
Intercontinental Trading Corp. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hadi Suryo), an importer and distributor of foreign cigarettes, will release two items of kretek cigarettes, "L.A. Ice Mangoboost" and "L.A. Lights", manufactured by Djarum of Indonesia, at tobacco shops nationwide on Monday, November 17, 2025.
What are kretek cigarettes?
It is said that kretek cigarettes began in the early 1880s when cloves, which were used as a painkiller to relieve asthma symptoms, were blended with tobacco leaves and sold at pharmacies.
The cloves in the blend sometimes crackle. The word "kretek" comes from the "kretek-krerek" sound that cloves make when they burn.
Secret Sauce
To accentuate the rich aroma of kretek, many Indonesian ingredients are used in the sauce, including cinnamon, jackfruit, and vanilla. Herbs and numerous spices are also used. Each puff is filled with the sweet aroma of cloves and tropical flavors.
